With the airport fast road under construction, Ningbo plans to build more fast roads. According to Ningbo Municipal Commission of Construction, fast roads will be built on Ningbo South Huancheng Road and North Waihuan Road.
In 2009, Ningbo started the construction of the first fast road, the airport fast road. According to the plan, By the end of 2011, the airport fast road will open to traffic. This road is of strategic significance for the development of the western part of the central urban area of the city.
"The two fast roads to be built are an important part of the recently made plan of the fast road network," said a related authority. The South Huancheng Fast Road starts from the Airport Road and ends in Dongyuan Lijiao, 9.2 kilometers long. The North Waihuan Fast Road is between the north Ningbo exit of the ring expressway and the Shiji Avenue, about 15.8 km long. Each of the roads is 68 meters wide, and the designed speed is 80 km an hour.
The two roads are both east-west in direction and therefore they are expected to relax the east-west traffic of the city.
The South Huancheng Fast Road will be an artery that links Hanshu District, Jiangdong District, Yinzhou District and Beilun District. "These fast roads are arteries important not only for the traffic in the central part of the city but also for the traffic in the middle south part of the urban area of the city," said the same authority. The North Waihuan Fast Road will play an leading role in the development of the fast traffic in the north part of the urban area of the city and with it the fast link to the south bank entrance of Hangzhou Bay Bridge will come true.
At present, the feasibility study meeting on the plans of the roads has been held. The expert group in principle agrees to the design. In the time to come, Ningbo Municipal Commission of Construction will further improve the design, and related departments will make the first-phase preparations for the plans and implement the plan in time.
